Community Bridge @MME-Mar 2012: The Power of Black Women - How Eating Kills Black Folk - Black Library Development

The Community Bridge Initiative is designed to bridge resources from higher ed schools, media institutions and local professionals, organizations and change agents from the community, to address social issues, counter the exclusion of cultural education in schools and reeducate the community to embrace its brilliance. The 3 ways we accomplish these goals are via our Monthly Lecture Series, Monthly Family Film Night and ongoing Library Development below...

"EATING"
w/ guest speaker, Jewel Thais-Williams!
For the first time in history, our children's life spans are predicted to be shorter than their parents.  With our fast food and heavy meat in-take as a community, diseases and cancers affecting African American adults have become a social norm. This event will be a comprehensive, documentary screening and presentation, through an African American lens, on how a plant-based diet and the immune system can eliminate many of the diseases impacting the Black community, including: heart disease, diabetes, cancer, etc. Jewel Thais-Williams is a licensed community healer who specializes in Chinese herbal therapy, acupuncture and nutrition. Her complimentary clinic, the Village Health Foundation, heals our community on a daily basis.
